What’s in a name?

Photography and story by Jack Brockley

Gene Forrester cuts through branches and trunks. The Olympia Kiwanis Club maintain partnerships with tree removal companies. If people want trees felled but do not want the wood, the companies give the trunks and branches to the Kiwanis club.

How appropriate: The Olympia Kiwanis Club garden project chairman is Don Leaf. And the chairman of the firewood project is—no kidding—Gene Forrester.
The botany-minded 91-member club also has members named Douglas DeForest, Jane Field and Derek Valley.
