We’re having a big push for membership in our club now. The more members that we have in our club, the more ideas we have for supporting our community.  To paraphrase a KI quote, if 27 members can make the impact that we do make in the community, imagine what we could do with 40? More? Every member can help with membership. Continue to wear your Kiwanis shirt or pin at volunteer events and talk about Kiwanis. At meetings and projects, make sure to talk to prospective members and help them feel welcome to our club. Identify opportunities for us to publicize our club and Kiwanis and let Beth, membership@tysonscornerkiwanis.org.

Thanks,
Stacy Bruss

4th of July McLean - July 4th
Caitlin and Stacy joined the McLean community center for their 4th of July celebration at Langley High School. This is a great community event that brings together the McLean community with games, food, music, and, of course, fireworks! A fun time was had by all, especially as we continue our good relationship with the community center.

LLS Bobby Mitchell Golf Classic - July 10th
Stacy and Kristina volunteered at the LLS Bobby Mitchell Golf Classic at the Landsdowne Resort. It was a great night full of Hall of Fame football players and raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - the society even beat their goal in money raised at the event!

Fest-abilities Picnic - July 11th
Mitra, Beth B, Stacy, and Adam volunteered at the Festabilities picnic in Alexandria on July 11. The picnic brought together individuals of all ages with disabilities along with activists and legislators. We helped set up for the event, passed out pizza, and assisted with the cleanup. The event was a lot of fun and we got to meet some great people.

Light The Night Kickoff - July 22nd
It’s Light the Night season again! Nicole, Kristina, Lana, and Stacy joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Arlington for their regional Light the Night kickoff. There were games and activities for walkers and ideas for their upcoming fundraising efforts. There were also moving tributes to individuals currently affected or in remission of these terrible diseases. It really brought home why we volunteer. Make plans to attend the Light the Night walk project on October 2!

On The Border Happy Hour - July 1st
Jim, Adam, and Stacy got together for a happy hour at On the Border in Tysons. Good food and good drink combined for a good time!

Division 20 Kiwanis Council Meeting - July 10th
Our Kiwanis club, along with eight other clubs in Northern Virginia, make up Division 20. Our division is led by a Lt. Governor who holds a Division Council Meeting about once a month. Representatives from each of the clubs meet at the Salvation Army in Arlington. Each club president takes a turn sharing information about their service projects, fundraisers and other upcoming events. The hour long meeting always ends with a raucous raffle with plenty of prizes. The next meeting will be held on Saturday September 11 at 8:30. Come and check it out!

Happy Hour Blue Iguana - July 23rd
Jim, Matt, Stacy, Fernando, Mitra, Brandon, Carly, and a few non-Kiwanians got together for happy hour at the Blue Iguana in Fair Lakes. Several stayed for dinner as well, and Kristina even stopped by. Everyone had a great time and Stacy got to show off her new car!

Centreville/Chantilly Kiwanis Meeting - July 26th
Carly, Mitra, Stacy, the Jeromes and Kristina attended the latest meeting for the Centreville/Chantilly, VA Kiwanis Club in formation. The club is being sponsored by Tysons Corner/McLean Kiwanis and is coming along slowly but surely! Governor Don Dudey was also in attendance at the meeting and encouraged the club to continue its momentum and grow to the 25 members it needs to charter.
