KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT
Alan Penn, of Medina, Ohio, is vice president of Kiwanis International. He was elected in June 2009, at the 94th annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee. He previously served as a trustee of Kiwanis International.
Alan is a member and past-distinguished president of the Kiwanis Club of Medina Breakfast in Medina, Ohio, and former member of the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood, Ohio. He is also a charter member and past distinguished president of the All-Ohio eMedina and the Tombstone, Montana, clubs, which meet on the Internet.
He served with honors as governor of the Ohio District in 1999-2000 and was the district’s Key Club administrator for four years. He also serves as the executive director emeritus of the Ohio District Kiwanis Foundation.
Alan served multiple terms on three international committees before his election to the international board. He is a Diamond-level three George F. Hixson Fellow, Tablet of Honor recipient and Heritage Society member of the Kiwanis International Foundation. He has received the Key Club G. Harold Martin award, is an honorary member of Circle K International and a Mel Osborne Canadian Foundation Fellow.
Alan is a faculty member at the University of Akron. In addition to his Kiwanis involvement, he has served on the Medina City Council and the board of the United Way of Medina County. He has served his community as a Red Cross, Heart Association, Garfield Elementary School and Head Start volunteer and chaired the State of Ohio Governor’s Community Service Council. In 2008, Alan was recognized by the Governor’s Council as the outstanding community volunteer for the State of Ohio.
Alan and his wife, Jeri, are parents of two children, both Kiwanis members, and have two grandsons.
